ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Allegheny College women's tennis team began its spring break trip with a pair of matches at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus in Orlando, Florida, against Adrian College and the College of Saint Benedict.

The Bulldogs (7-4) prevailed over the Gators (10-4) by a 6-3 score in the first match of the afternoon, while the Bennis (2-2) earned an 8-1 victory over Allegheny in the nightcap.

Adrian 6, Allegheny 3
Although the top half of the lineup struggled against the Bulldogs, the Gators earned three points by winning their matches at third doubles, fourth singles, and sixth singles. Omega Ba (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) was a double-winner for Allegheny, as she teamed with fellow first-year Rei Etsumi (Honolulu, Hawaii/President William McKinley) to secure an 8-2 victory at third doubles.

Ba, playing in her hometown, then defeated Jennifer Wojcik with identical 6-4 set scores in the sixth position. At No. 4 singles, Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) dispatched Liv Depies, 6-2, 6-2. Etsumi nearly won her match at No. 5 singles. She took the first set against Adrian's Regan Snyder but was outlasted in a 10-point tiebreaker.

Saint Benedict 8, Allegheny 1
Allegheny pushed the Bennies in the first two doubles matches but were unable to secure a point. The Gators avoided the sweep when Jean-Arlette Legrand (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville School) defeated Peyton Kopel at No. 2 singles by a 6-0, 6-4 score.

Etsumi once again went extras in her singles match. She won the first set 6-2, but dropped both the second-set tie break and super tie break to Jane Bodensteiner.
