LATROBE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) following a 9-0 sweep of Saint Vincent College on Wednesday afternoon in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
The shutout victory is the second in a row for the Gators (7-5, 2-0 PAC), who blanked Waynesburg University in the 2024 PAC opener on Monday. It's also a key conference win for Allegheny, as the Bearcats (8-4, 1-1 PAC) were predicted to finish fourth in the PAC in the preseason coaches' poll.
Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and
David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College) extended their win streak to eight consecutive matches and picked up their 13th victory as a duo with an 8-3 No. 1 doubles win. Both went on to capture the opening set of their singles matches by a 6-0 score.Â
Guillaume Emiliano Loinard-Gonzalez (Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico/Universidad Jefferson Morelia) and
Benedek Kaibas (Salgótarján, Hungary/Mikszáth Kálmán Gimnázium), who played the No. 3 doubles match together, are now 2-0 as a team after beating the Bearcats' third tandem by an 8-4 score.
Will Jarvie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) lost only one game in his 6-1, 6-0 sweep of Matthew Sadusky in the third singles contest.
