Men's Tennis Stings Yellow Jackets in 2024 PAC Opener

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champions from Allegheny College opened the 2024 PAC schedule with a lopsided 9-0 victory over Waynesburg University at the Robertson Athletic Complex on Monday evening.

The Gators (6-5) dropped only four games after blanking the Yellow Jackets in two out of three doubles matches and 11 out of 12 singles sets.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College) won their seventh consecutive match as a tandem. On the other hand, the No. 2 team of Will Jarvie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and Evan Nelson (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) and the third doubles duo consisting of Benedek Kaibas (Salgótarján, Hungary/Mikszáth Kálmán Gimnázium) and Guillaume Emiliano Loinard-Gonzalez (Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico/Universidad Jefferson Morelia) both earned the first wins of the year together.

Hedlund then swept Ethan Lown, 6-0, 6-0, to extend his singles winning streak to seven consecutive matches. Jarvie jumped up in the lineup and secured his the first singles win of his career at the No. 2 position. Nelson also climbed the lineup and won his first match of the season at the No. 3 spot.
