Men’s Lacrosse Suffers Setback at Alfred

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Allegheny men's lacrosse team dropped a nonconference game on the road at Alfred Sunday (March 24), 14-8.
 
The Saxons scored the first two goals of the game before CT Graniel (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) got the Gators on the board with an unassisted tally to close out the first.
 
Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W. Va./Martinsburg) answered an Alfred goal early in the second quarter to cut the lead to 3-2. However, the Saxons ended the half on a 5-0 to lead 8-2 at the break.
 
Alfred struck first in the second half before a Nick Gralewski (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) broke up the run. After another Alfred goal, the Gators scored the final two goals of the third. Cushwa was responsible for the first goal, a man-up tally assisted by JP Rakis (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) while Aidan D'Amato (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) struck the second time with Pete Schellbach (New York, N.Y./Salisbury School) providing the assist.
 
The Allegheny run carried over to the fourth as D'Amato scored his second off a Gralewski pass. After an Alfred goal, Gralewski scored unassisted before Jack Hales (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) set up Gideon Sullivan (Getzville, N.Y./Cathedral (Ind.)) to cut the lead to 11-8. However, the Saxons closed out the game with three straight goals to seal the win.
 
Inside the Box
  • Cushwa, D'Amato and Gralewski all had two goals apiece for the Gators. D'Amato added four groundballs while Gralewski had two.
  • Graniel and Sullivan tallied the other pair of goals. Sullivan also had three groundballs.
  • Schellbach, Rakis and Hales had an assist each. Rakis also had four groundballs and caused a pair of turnovers.
  • Cassady Bouthet (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) had a team-high six groundballs and caused two turnovers.
  • Garin Stearns (Hudson, Ohio/Revere) made 13 saves and collected 13 groundballs.

  • Today marked the first meeting between the two teams.
