MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny College came back in the fourth quarter to tie Wednesday's non-conference matchup against the College of Wooster, but the Fighting Scots prevailed with an 11-9 win on a bitterly cold night at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.
The upset-minded Gators (2-3) trailed by as many as four goals early in the third quarter. Allegheny responded by scoring six of the next eight goals between the third and fourth quarters to even the score at 8-all.
Aidan D'Amato (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) helped spark the first three-goal run, scoring Allegheny's third goal before dishing out assists to
Nick Gralewski (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and
Gideon Sullivan (Getzville, N.Y./Cathedral (Ind.)). Sullivan's man-up marker at 9:10 in the third brought the Gators within one at 6-5. After Wooster (6-3) scored two in a row,
JP Rakis (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) netted two consecutive goals, including a quick-stick finish on the doorstep of the crease on a man-up play.
The first goal of the fourth quarter was a deep shot from
Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg), which evened the score at 8-all. But the Fighting Scots halted a 10-minute scoring drought, scoring thrice in a span of 2:35 to pull ahead 11-8. It was a large enough lead to survive three man-up opportunities by the Gators in the final nine minutes of action.
