Gators Fall in Battle to Yellow Jackets

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Allegheny men's basketball team fell on the road in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action to Waynesburg 73-64 Saturday (Feb. 3) on the road.
 
After a back-and-forth start, a 7-0 Waynesburg run gave them a 15-7 advantage. The Gators fought back with a 12-4 run to tie it at 19. The teams were evenly matched throughout the rest of half as the Yellow Jackets owned a slight 38-36 halftime lead.
 
Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) led the Gators with 10 first half points. Isaiah Portis (Medina, Ohio/Norwayne) put up seven while Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) had six and Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park) tallied five. The Gators shot 44.8% (13-of-29) in the half and had a slight edge in rebounds.
 
Early in the second half, Wilder scored four straight points to tie the game and then give Allegheny the lead, 42-40. However, Waynesburg started to pull away, taking a 61-49 lead midway through the half. The Gators fought back, bringing the score withing single digits multiple times in the final minutes but were unable to overcome the deficit.

  • Lang led the Gators with 13 points to go with four rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Barker was second on the team with 12 points.
  • Portis produced 11 points with four rebounds and four steals.
  • Preston Turk (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) finished with nine points, four rebounds and two assists.
  • Wilder also had nine points with four rebounds.
  • Jayson Perry (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) and James Sitter (Erie, Pa./Fairview) each had five points.
