Gators Drop PAC Road Contest at Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Allegheny men's basketball team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road game at Chatham, 80-58, Wednesday (Feb. 7) evening.
 
The Cougars gained an early advantage, taking a 23-12 lead eight minutes in. The Gators fought back with an 11-4 run, featuring three pointers by Zion Barksdale (Meadville, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park) to cut the lead to 27-23 with under eight minutes left to play in the opening half. However, Chatham outpaced the Gators down the stretch to take a 46-33 halftime lead.
 
Isaiah Portis (Medina, Ohio/Norwayne) led the Gators with a dozen points in the opening half. Barksdale accounted for six points while Wilder had five and three assists. Allegheny hit 13-of-27 (48.1%) shots in the first half.
 
Coming out of the halftime break, the Cougars limited the Gators to just four field goals in the first ten minutes of the second half. Allegheny would make up some of the ground in the final ten minutes of play but were unable to overcome the deficit as they dropped the conference bout.
 
Inside the Box
  • Portis ended the night with a team-high 14 points. 
  • Barksdale had a season-high 11 points in the game with three rebounds and two steals. He also totaled a season-high with five blocks.
  • Wilder had five points and five rebounds.
  • Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch), Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)), Jayson Perry (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) and Holden Phillips (Broadlands, Va./Briar Wood) all had four points.
  • Preston Turk (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) had five rebounds and a pair of points while James Sitter (Erie, Pa./Fairview) had three rebounds and a pair of points.
  • Trey Williams (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), Tanner Miller (Elkins, W. Va./Elkins), Mike Noonan (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and Amari Jackson (Cincinnati, Ohio/The Kiski School) also tallied points in the contest.
  • The Gators went eight-of-10 from the free throw line.

  • Allegheny is now 2-5 all-time against Chatham.
