MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team began their 2024 campaign at home against Ohio Wesleyan Saturday (Feb. 24), falling to the Battling Bishops 14-4.
The Battling Bishops got on the board after five minutes of play, but the Gators were quick to answer.
Kennedy Kyle (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley) scored the first goal of the season for Allegheny, coming off a feed by
Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal). However, Ohio Wesleyan scored twice more in the frame and added seven more in the second to take a 10-1 lead at the half.
After a pair of goals by Ohio Wesleyan in the third quarter, the Gators got back on the board early in the fourth. Petrarca once again provided the assist, this time finding
Ashley Amato (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) for a close ranged goal. Petrarca then got on the board later in the frame, converting a free-position attempt. In the final minute,
Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.Y./Northern Burlington County Regional) scored off a failed clear.
Inside the Box
- Petrarca led the Gators with a goal and two assists. She also led the team with three caused turnovers while grabbing three groundballs.
- Kyle, Amato and Surdykowski also found the back of the net for the Gators.
- Amato caused a pair of turnovers in addition to scoring.
- Emily Herrold (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) had four groundballs and two draw controls.
- Sybi Gerhart (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) had three groundballs and caused a turnover.
- Sarah Thorman (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) made four saves in net while Macy Simons (Catonsville, Md./Western Tech) made three and collected three groundballs.
