Men's Lacrosse Falls in 2024 Opener at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio -- The Allegheny College men's lacrosse team opened the 2024 season on the losing end of an 18-5 decision in a road matchup against Ohio Northern University on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (2-1), who won 12 games and advanced to the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) semifinals a year ago, got off to a hot start and never looked back on their home turf inside Dial-Roberson Stadium. ONU scored the first seven goals while holding the Gators (0-1) off the scoreboard in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Allegheny began to find its groove, as the Gator defense limited the Polar Bears to just one goal. Meanwhile, Aidan D'Amato (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) helped the offense get started. Allegheny scored two of the three goals in the second quarter and the first in the third, two of which came from D'Amato. His second marker just over a minute into the third quarter brought Allegheny back within five goals at 8-3.

However, the hosts responded with 10 unanswered to put the game well out of reach. Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) snapped the scoring drought with back-to-back goals in the last five minutes to reach the final score.
