Reiter, Kraus Win Again to Close Out PAC Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Josephine Reiter (Pittsburgh, Pa./CAPA) won the 200 breaststroke while Olivia Kraus (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) captured the 100 freestyle as the Gators closed out competition at the 2024 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships Saturday (Feb. 17) at Grove City.

The Gators finished the event in sixth place with 286 points. Grove City won the team title.

Kraus earned her second victory of the weekend, and fourth in the past two seasons. She clocked in at a time of 51.42 in the final heat to earn the win and defend her title in the event from last year. Her preliminary time of 51.38 broke the Allegheny record, the PAC Championship Meet record and the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool record. The time also marked a B cut for the NCAA Division III Championships, the first for Allegheny since Megan Feeney hit the mark in the 200 backstroke in 2015.

Reiter also collected her second title of the event and third of her career. In the finals, she shaved off nearly two seconds from her preliminary time, touching the wall at 2:31.76 to claim the championship. The win marked her first in the event after finishing seventh in 2023.

The evening started with the 1650 freestyle. Katya Pryshchenko (Berwyn, Pa./AIM Academy) and Mary Evans (Rochester, N.Y./Arcadia) competed in the event. Pryshchenko took 13th with a time of 19:46.78 while Evans was just behind in 15th with a time of 19:54.66.

Leah Frase (Madison, Ohio/Madison) swam in the consolation finals of the 200 breaststroke. She placed 13th overall with a time of 2:53.72. Frase was also named to the PAC All-Sportsmanship Team. The PAC Sportsmanship Teams were established to recognize student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior, and are an ongoing effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among all PAC teams and student-athletes.

The championships ended with the 400 freestyle relay. The squad of Kraus, Pryshchenko, Reiter and Anna Kohler (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) placed third with a time of 3:43.76.
