Miller Sets Another Record as Women's Soccer Advances to PAC Semis

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's soccer team won its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) quarterfinal matchup against Waynesburg University on Saturday night at the Robertson Athletic Complex, 3-1.

The No. 3-seeded Gators (12-6-1) punched their ticket to the PAC semifinals after defeating the No. 6 Yellow Jackets (8-5-4) in their first playoff game in a decade. Allegheny will advance to face the No. 2 seed, Grove City College, on Wednesday, November 6, at 7:00 p.m. in Grove City, Pennsylvania.

Allegheny's win over Waynesburg was a milestone victory for several reasons. It was the first postseason contest for the Gators since falling to The College of New Jersey in the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Championships on November 15, 2014. And it was their first playoff win since beating Denison University in the 2014 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) semifinals less than two weeks prior.

With a five-point performance, star senior Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio Lake/Ridge Academy) continued to rewrite the team's history books. Miller scored the first two goals in the 16th and 71st minutes to put the Gators up by a pair. Her second goal of the evening broke the Allegheny women's soccer record for points in a season, a record that has stood the test of time since Hall of Famer Nellie Springer Kraus '89 produced back-to-back 62-point seasons in 1985 and 1986. Miller earned her 63rd point of the year on her second goal, and added one more point with an assist on Olivia Wilson's (Mars, Pa./Mars) insurance marker in the 88th minute.

Inside the Box Score
  • Allegheny took more shots, 28-to-19, and put more shots on target, 12-to-8.
  • The Gators also held a 6-to-2 advantage in corner kicks over Waynesburg.
  • Despite a physical game played by both sides, the only yellow card of the night was issued to Head Coach Lacey Phillips in the 60th minute.
  • Miller scored in the 16th and 71st minutes.
  • Wilson found the back of the net with a deflection off a corner kick in the 88th minute.
  • Miller, Madeline Schneider (Poolesville, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart), Aylish McNevan (Willoughby, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy), and Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) each earned one assist.
  • Julz Mohrbacher made things interesting by cutting Allegheny's 2-0 lead in half with her team's only score in the 85th minute.
  • Madison Lemanski (Bear, Del./Delaware Military Academy) was the winning goalkeeper after making seven saves for the Gators.

News and Notes
  • Allegheny's win over Waynesburg was its first postseason victory since beating Denison in the NCAC semifinals, 4-1, on the former Robertson Field on November 5, 2014.
  • The Gators improved to 2-0-2 against the Yellow Jackets since returning to the PAC and have won both matchups against Waynesburg on their home pitch.
  • Allegheny is riding a five-game win streak, its longest since winning seven in a row in 2014.
  • With 64 points, Miller established a new program record for points in a season, surpassing the two seasons Springer Kraus earned 62 points in 1985 and 1986.
  • Miller's 26 goals are tied for second-most in a season, and her 12 assists are tied for third.
