MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team wrapped up its fall season on a strong note by sweeping Washington and Jefferson College in a non-conference match at the Robertson Tennis Center.
On a perfect day for tennis, the Gators (3-3) performed equally well on the court against the Presidents (1-2). Not only did Allegheny earn the doubles point by winning all three matches, but no Gator dropped more than two games in any of the six singles contests.
Head coach
Dave Hayden utilized two new pairings in the top doubles matches, as seniors
Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and
Will Jarvie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and freshmen
Olivier Erkens (Gouda, Netherlands/Coornhert Gymnasium) and
Javier Bejarano Jimenez (El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma) teamed up for the first time this fall. Both duos were successful, and the team of Erkens and Bejarano Jimenez had the best result with a 6-1 win.
In the No. 1 singles match, Hedlund extended his win streak to five in a row with a 6-1, 6-0. At the bottom of the lineup,
Mitchell Curtis (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) won his third consecutive match by a score of 6-2, 6-0, and remained undefeated as a singles competitor this fall.
