LATROBE, Pa. -- Brady Napoleon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) put on a second-half show to lead the Allegheny College men's soccer team to an important 4-0 victory over Saint Vincent College under the lights on Friday at UPMC Field.
Napoleon netted all four goals in the second half, a banner performance that solidified his place in the record books and guaranteed the Gators (6-10-3, 5-3-2 PAC) will have a home playoff game.
With the victory, Allegheny leapfrogged Chatham University in the standings and finished the regular season in fourth place. As a result, the Blue and Gold will host the Cougars in the PAC Championship Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, November 2, at 3:00 p.m.
A one-man wrecking crew on the pitch, Napoleon became only the fourth player in team history to score at least four goals in a game, joining Walter Klein '43, David Nelson '79, and Izaak Miller '18. His career outing came just four days after posting a hat trick and seven points in a 5-3 win over Thiel College. Wednesday's scoring clinic marked Napoleon's third game of the season with three or more goals, all of which have come in the last 15 days.
Will Gruca (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) played a significant role in Napoleon's remarkable game. The second-year midfielder assisted on three of his four tallies. Gruca's best pass came on Allegheny's third goal, as he sent a long through ball over the Saint Vincent (2-11-6, 1-8-1 PAC) defense but just far enough from the cage to prevent the goalie from rushing out to make a play on it. Gruca's final assist, however, was the most highlight-worthy. He rang a 30-yard shot bar-down off the crossbar that Napoleon tapped into the net with the goalie out of position after attempting a diving save.
