LATROBE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's soccer team defeated Saint Vincent 4-2 on the road in their regular season finale Tuesday (Oct. 29), securing the third seed in the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships.
The Gators got on the scoreboard first, scoring in the 20th minute.
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) passed the ball over to
Madeline Schneider (Poolsville, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) just past midfield. Schneider took the ball down to the far corner of the box, and scored on a lofted shot over the goalkeeper to the far post. However, the lead was short lived as the Bearcats tied it up two minutes later.
Eleven minutes into the second half, the Gators regained the lead. On a free-kick,
Karley Johnson (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community) served the ball in front to
Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional), who headed it to the near post for the go-ahead goal.
Allegheny added to their lead in the 65th minute. After creating a turnover in the Bearcat zone, Surdykowski passed the ball up to Miller, who got by her defender and scored on a close, low shot to increase their lead to two goals.
After the Bearcats scored to cut the lead to one, Miller tallied her second goal of the contest. This time, after receiving the pass, Miller finessed around Bearcat defenders before striking from 25-yards out for the final goal of the game.
