Women’s Soccer Draws with Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Allegheny women's soccer team continued Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Wednesday (Oct. 2) at Waynesburg, playing the Yellow Jackets to a 1-1 draw.

The Gators had some opportunities early on with shots on goal by Casey Bender (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) and Madeline Schneider (Poolsville, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart), but both of their attempts were turned away.

The Yellow Jackets took the lead in the 26th minute as they capitalized on a corner kick to find the back of the net.

Overall, the Gators had an edge in shots for the opening 45 minutes, 16-7, but trailed 1-0 at the break.

Allegheny's persistence paid off in the 52nd minute. Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) crossed a ball to Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) who knocked it over to Delaney David (Cleveland, Ohio/Brooklyn). David quickly shot the ball past the Yellow Jacket goalkeeper to tie the game at one. The goal was the third of the season for David.

In the 58th minute, Schneider nearly put the Gators ahead, but her shot went off the crossbar.

In the final 20 minutes, the Gators outshot the Yellow Jackets 6-0, with four on goal, but were unable to find the go-ahead goal as they ended the game in a 1-1 draw.
