Late Goal Not Enough as Gators Fall to Titans

MEADVILLE, Pa. – A late goal was not enough for the Allegheny women's soccer team as they fell Tuesday night (Oct. 15), 2-1, to Westminster in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

The Titans nearly got on the scoreboard in the opening minute, but Madison Lemanski (Bear, Del./Delaware Military Academy) made a tough save on a close ranged header. Emily Beck (Martinsburg, W. Va./Martinsburg) had three shots on target early on, but all three attempts were saved.

Westminster got on the board in the 20th minute on a shot from the top of the box to the far bottom corner. Beck, Leah Brockett (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) and Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) all had shots on target after that turned away as Westminster led 1-0 at halftime.

In the 52nd minute, the Titans added to their lead after they lofted a shot from the far side inside the near side post, making it 2-0.

The Gators cut the lead in half in the 73rd minute. Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) set up Miller in front of the net. Miller quickly snuck the shot past the goalkeeper, cutting the deficit to one goal. The goal was Miller's 17th of the year.

Allegheny had some chances late but were unable to capitalize as they fell 2-1.
