MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team hosted Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Bethany Friday night (Oct. 11), defeating the defending conference champions in four sets.
Allegheny won the sets 25-15, 25-16, 20-25 and 25-13.
After trading points back-and-forth to open the match, the Gators went on a 5-1 run to take a 12-9 lead. Allegheny would maintain that lead throughout the set as it reached as much as ten points late, as they won the opening set 25-15.
The Gators jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the second set before the Bison called a timeout. Allegheny continued to play well after the timeout, keeping their distance from Bethany. Similar to the first set, the Gators ended the second set on a big run, ultimately taking the set 25-16.
The Bison had the early lead in the third set, 10-5. The Gators rattled off four straight points to pull within a point before tying the set at 12. The Bison pulled back ahead after a 3-0 run, 17-13. The Gators battled back to make it close, but fell in the set 25-20.
Allegheny bounced back in the fourth set, opening on an 8-3 run. The Gators continued to roll following a Bison timeout, increasing their advantage to 18-8 before Bethany used their final timeout. Leading 24-13, a kill by
Sydney Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) secured the conference victory.
Inside the Box
- Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) led the Gators with 21 kills, her most in a match that did not go to five sets. She also assisted on a pair of blocks.
- Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) was also in double digits with 14 kills in addition to seven digs.
- Kirk ended the match with nine kills and six digs.
- Skyler Fatola (Queen Creek, Ariz./Eastmark) added four kills and four block assists.
- Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) assisted on 29 points while Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) had 19 assists and nine digs.
- Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) led the team with a season-high 38 digs.
- Alejandra Fernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville) had 14 digs and three aces while Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy ((Utah)) had 14 digs and two aces.

- Allegheny improved to 16-5 overall and 3-0 in PAC play.
- The Gators are now 8-4 all-time against Bethany.
