Gators Fall to Titans in PAC Bout

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny men's basketball team was unable to overcome a second half run by Westminster as they dropped the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest 83-61 Wednesday night (Jan. 31) in Meadville.
 
Isaiah Portis (Medina, Ohio/Norwayne) scored eight of the Gators first 12 points, including a pair of threes, as they led 12-9 five minutes in. After the first media timeout, the Titans went on a 9-2 run to take the lead. The Gators fought back, rattling off a 6-0 run of their own to regain the lead, 20-18. 
 
The back-and-forth action continued as the Titans overtook the Gator advantage late in the frame as they led by a narrow 37-33 edge at the half.
 
Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) and Portis had eight points apiece to lead the Gators in the opening half. Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) added six points while Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park) had six rebounds.
 
The Gators brought the score within a point multiple times in the first five minutes of the second half, but the Titans started to pull away with a 12-0 run. The lead would grow to as much as 22 as the Gators dropped the PAC contest.
 
Inside the Box
  • Barker led the Gators with 16 points with five rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Portis finished with 14 points, four rebounds and three steals.
  • Lang was the third Gator in double figures, tallying 12 points.
  • Preston Turk (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) put up seven points alongside three rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Wilder finished with seven rebounds and six points.
  • Allegheny's eight offensive rebounds led to 11 second half points.
