CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Allegheny field hockey team played a neutral site, nonconference game against Earlham Saturday (Sept. 9) on the campus of Wilson College, defeating the Quakers 3-1.
The win marked the first for the Gators under the guidance of first year head coach
Lauren Thomas.
Earlham got on the board first, scoring just two minutes into the game. Though the Gators outshot their counterparts 10-3 in the first half, the early Quaker goal proved to be the only one in thirty minutes.
The Gators turned it around in the second half. About 11 minutes into the third quarter, the Gators tied the game.
Taylor Fordyce (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) scored the tying goal off an assist by
Emily Robles (Burlington Township, Pa./Burlington Township).
Allegheny took the lead ten minutes later in the fourth quarter. This time, Robles scored off an assist by
Hana Miller (Willards, Md./Worcester Preparatory School). They added an additional tally just over a minute later by
Maya Francisco (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley Country Day School), assisted by
Rhyan Rish (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome).
The team limited Earlham's chances the rest of the way as they collected the 3-1 win.
