Gators Drop Wilson Invitational Championship Game

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Allegheny field hockey team fell in the championship game to host Wilson College at the Wilson Invitational Sunday (Sept. 10), 3-1.

The Gators earned a spot in the championship game after defeating Earlham 3-1 on Saturday (Sept. 9).

The teams went back-and-forth in the opening quarter. Each side put a shot on goal, but neither were able to find the back of the net.

The Phoenix took the lead in the second quarter, scoring just over six minutes into the frame. Wilson brought the lead to 2-0 with a goal just before halftime. They added an additional goal in the third to take a 3-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Gators got on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter. Off a penalty corner, Jamie Marchewka (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) found Maddy Keenan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Trafford) for the tally, cutting the lead to 3-1.
