Trio of Second Half Goals Lead Gators Past Presidents

MEADVILLE, Pa. – A trio of second half goals helped the Allegheny men's soccer team battle past Washington and Jefferson in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match, 3-1, Saturday (Sept. 30) at home.

Nick Magee (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) nearly got the Gators on the board early in the game, but his seventh minute shot went off the crossbar. Later in the opening half, Cliff Weaver (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) had an opportunity that ricocheted off the left post.

The Gators owned a 6-4 edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes, but neither team was able to find the net.

The Presidents broke up the scoreless game in the 52nd minute, scoring on a close ranged shot.

In the 71st minute, a Washington and Jefferson foul gave the Gators a penalty shot. Will Gruca (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) took the opportunity and tucked the shot inside the post, tying the game at one.

Allegheny took the lead in the 77th minute. A cross by Gunnar Brettell (Steubenville, Ohio/Indian Creek) found Colin Elder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) in front of the net. Elder shot the ball past the goalkeeper to the far side of the net, giving the Gators a late lead.

The Gators extended the lead to 3-1 with a penalty kick in the 84th minute. This time, Brady Napoleon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) stepped up and scored inside the post on the goalie's left.

The Gators' defense held on strong to secure the PAC win.
