Gators Fall on Road to Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Allegheny field hockey team fell on the road to Susquehanna 4-0 Sunday (Sept. 3) on nonconference action.
 
Meredythe Baird (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) was tested early, making nine saves in the opening nine minutes before the River Hawks, who defeated 19th-ranked Franklin & Marshall in their season opener, cracked the scoreboard with under five minutes to play in the opening quarter. They added another tally a minute later to take a 2-0 lead into the second.
 
The Gator defense clamped down in the second quarter, limiting the River Hawks to just one shot and one penalty corner in the second quarter.
 
Susquehanna added to their lead midway through the third quarter. Late in the fourth, the River Hawks added one more goal as they collected a 4-0 win.
 
Inside the Box
  • Baird finished the game with 12 saves. That save total tied two others for the second most in a single game for the Gators.

  • Today's game marked the first meeting between the two teams. 
Up Next
The Gators are back on the road next weekend for a pair of games at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. Allegheny will face Earlham on Sept. 9 and an opponent to be determined on Sept. 10.
