Volleyball Sweeps Hiram for Third Straight Win

HIRAM, Ohio – The Allegheny volleyball team swept Hiram on the road Wednesday night (Sept. 27) for their third straight victory.
 
The Gators won the sets 25-17, 25-22, 25-20.
 
Trailing 11-10 in the opening set, the Gators went on a 6-0 run to gain the lead. They ended the set on 5-0 run, capped off by a Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) kill, 25-17.
 
The Terriers gained an early lead in the second set. That lead grew to 20-11, but the Gators went on an 8-0 run to bring the score within a point. After trading points, a Hiram attack error tied the game at 21. After a Terrier point, the Gators went on another run as an ace by Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) completed a 4-0 set ending run.
 
Once again, Hiram controlled the early portion of the third set. Runs of 4-0, 5-0 and 3-0 would give the Gators a 19-17 run. Leading 21-20, the Gators finished with another 4-0 run off the serves of Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy (Utah)) to clinch the win.
 
Inside the Box
  • Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) led the team with 10 kills while also tallying 11 digs.
  • Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) finished with nine kills, four blocks and two aces. 
  • Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) had seven kills while Sydney Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) produced six.
  • Robare led the Gators with 17 assists.
  • Diaz led the team with 15 digs. 
News and Notes
  • The Gators moved to 12-5 on the season.
  • Allegheny has won three straight matches.
  • All-time, the Gators are now 10-25 against the Terriers.
