NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's soccer team was unable to rebound after giving up two early goals in a 3-1 setback against Westminster College on Saturday afternoon.
The undefeated Titans (8-0-0, 2-0-0 PAC) held onto their top spot in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings thanks to a pair of quick goals. Chloe LaRosa netted her 12th of the season in the third minute, and Allie Augustine added only in the fifth minute to put Westminster ahead, 2-0.
The Gators (2-6-0, 1-1-0 PAC) managed to slow the high-paced Westminster offense for the next 64 minutes and got back into the game in the 52nd minute. On the second of two consecutive corner kicks taken by
Casey Bender (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus), the ball was cleared out of the box back to Bender, who was all lone in the left corner of the field. She took one touch back inside the 18, before ripping a right-footed attempt into the far upper corner.
Trailing 2-1,
Julieta Schworm (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) nearly tied the score a minute-and-a-half later, but Westminster keeper Morgan Murphy sprawled to her right to collect the ball.
Emma Milligan (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara) also had a shot denied by Murphy, before the Titans added an insurance goal in the 69th minute.
