Women’s Soccer Defeats Bethany to Open PAC Play

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's soccer team opened up Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play against Bethany Wednesday (Sept. 20), defeating the Bison 2-0.

The Gators got out of the gates quickly. In just the third minute, Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) found Julieta Schworm (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) on a through pass. Schworm finessed a shot around the goalie and found the back of the net for the early goal.

Each team had opportunities the remainder of the opening half, including a couple by Emily Beck (Martinsburg, W. Va./Martinsburg) in the final minute but neither were able to capitalize as the Gators maintained their 1-0 lead at the half.

The Gators added to their lead in the 57th minute. After a Schworm header hit off the post, Hallie Johnson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) corralled the rebound and scored from close range, extending the advantage to 2-0.

Allegheny held Bethany at-bay the rest of the way, preserving the shutout victory for Kari May (Erie, Pa./McDowell).
