HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Allegheny field hockey team opened their season on the road at Juniata Saturday (Sept. 2), falling to the Eagles 4-1.
The Eagles scored first, capitalizing on a penalty corner late in the opening quarter. In the second quarter,
Meredythe Baird (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) made a pair of saves to keep the score 1-0 heading into halftime.
Juniata added to their lead with a goal midway through the third quarter. Four minutes later, the Eagles struck again to bring their lead to 3-0.
After Juniata found the back of the net early in the fourth, the Gators cracked the scoreboard.
Emily Robles (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington Township) scored off an assist by
Maddy Keenan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Trafford), cutting the lead to three. However, the Gators were unable to overcome the lead, falling 4-1 in their season opener.
