MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team concluded play at their annual home invitational Saturday (Sept. 16), defeating Pitt Greensburg before falling to John Carroll.
The Gators finished their home invitational with a 3-1 record.
Allegheny 3 Pitt Greensburg 0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-21)
The Gators got out of the gates fast, gaining a 9-3 lead. The set lead grew to as much as 14 as the Gators won the set 25-12 on a
Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) kill.
After back-and-forth action to start the second half, the Gators jumped ahead, 14-8. A Pitt Greensburg timeout failed to stop the Gators run as their advantage grew to 12 en route to a 25-21.
The third set was close, but the Gators pulled away late. An ace by
Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) capped off a 6-1 run as the Gators clinched the win.
Inside the Box
- Javes led the Gators with 10 kills.
- Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) and Chambers had nine kills each. Bawek also added nine digs.
- Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) had 20 assists while Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had a dozen. Gray also had eight digs.
- Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) had a team-high 12 digs and five aces.
- Alejandra Fernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville) produced 12 digs.
John Carroll 3 Allegheny 1 (25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18)
The opening set was a battle throughout. Tied at 23, the Blue Streaks won the final two points to claim the set.
The momentum carried over to the second set for John Carroll as they gained an early lead. The Gators' late comeback fell a bit short as John Carroll moved ahead, 2-0.
The third set saw the score swing both ways as the teams continued to trade advantages back-and-forth. Trailing 23-22, the Gators won the final three points, with a Javes kill being the final one, to cut the lead to 2-1.
John Carroll bounced back in the fourth set, taking an early lead. Once again, the Gators fought back late, but the Blue Streaks held off the advance to take the match 3-1.
Inside the Box
- Bawek led the team with 12 kills while also tallying 14 digs.
- Chambers had 10 kills while Javes finished with nine and Sydney Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) seven.
- Gray totaled 29 assists.
- Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy (Utah)) finished with four aces and eight digs.
- Diaz led the defense once more with 25 digs.
- Fernandez produced eight digs.

- The Gators moved to 9-5 overall.
- Allegheny is now 12-1 against Pitt Greensburg and 4-15 against John Carroll.
- Javes was named to the All-Tournament Team.
