NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team traveled to Westminster Thursday (Sept. 21) for a nonconference match against Westminster, defeating the Titans in four sets (17-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-21).
The Titans got out to a fast start in the opening set. The Gators stopped four set point opportunities before the Titans claimed the set, 25-17.
The Gators bounced back in the second set. Tied late in the set at 23 apiece, a kill by
Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) followed by a Westminster error gave the Gators the win, tying the match.
Allegheny rode that momentum into the third set. Leading by as much as 10, the Gators won 25-16 to move within one set of the victory.
Once again, the Gators jumped out to a big lead in the final set. The Titans fought back, tying the set at 10. Allegheny slowly started to pull away again, using a few small runs. Leading 24-21, a kill from
Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren) clinched the nonconference win.
Inside the Box
- Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) led the Gators with 11 kills.
- Javes and Sydney Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) had 10 kills apiece.
- Beers added six kills.
- Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) had 17 assists with 13 digs while Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) also tallied 17 assists.
- Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) had a team-high 27 digs while also serving three aces.
- Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) added 17 digs while Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy (Utah)) had 10.
