Allegheny Captures First-Ever PAC Women’s All-Sports Trophy, Men Finish Third

PAC Release

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. --
Throughout the 2022-23 academic year – Allegheny College's first in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in nearly four decades – the Gators reveled in success on the courts, fields, and trails.

On Monday, Allegheny's unparalleled achievements were further cemented by the announcement of the PAC's 2022-23 All-Sports Trophy results.

For the first time in College history, Allegheny was crowned the winner of the PAC Women's All-Sports Trophy.

The Gators captured the Women's All-Sports Trophy with a seven-point advantage over second-place Grove City College. Allegheny, which trailed the Wolverines by 3.5 points following the winter championships, received a conference-leading 38 points in the spring for a total of 98.5 points. Grove City (91.5) and Westminster (84) finished second and third, respectively.

Allegheny ended a remarkable run of success by the Wolverines and Titans, who combined to win the past 15 Women's All-Sports Trophies. It's only the fourth time since 1989 that an institution other than Grove City or Westminster earned the Women's All-Sports Trophy, which was not awarded during Allegheny's first tenure in the PAC from 1958-84.

Allegheny tied Washington and Jefferson College for the most PAC championships this year, with four of its five titles on the women's side. In the fall, the Gators claimed cross country and tennis championships, followed by first-place performances in indoor and outdoor track and field in the winter and spring. The Gators were second in women's lacrosse, third in golf, and fourth in softball, swimming and diving, and volleyball.

In the Men's All-Sports Trophy standings, the Gators placed third with 89 points, trailing only Grove City (97.5) and Washington and Jefferson (95). Allegheny won the men's tennis championship in the spring while the Gators finished as runners-up in golf, basketball, and cross country. Nine of the College's 11 men's sports programs placed among the top 5 in their respective standings.

In addition to Allegheny's team championships, the Gators also captured numerous individual titles in men's and women's track and field, women's swimming and diving, and men's golf.

The PAC All-Sports Trophies are awarded annually to the schools which perform the best across the board in league competition. First-place finishes are worth 11 points, second place is worth 10 points, and so on.
