STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Allegheny men's lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season with a 17-9 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road win at Franciscan Saturday (April 29).
The Gators will be the number four seed in the upcoming PAC Championship Tournament.
Allegheny had one of their top offensive outputs in the opening quarter, taking an 8-1 lead.
Nick Gralewski (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and
Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W. Va./Martinsburg) had two goals apiece.
Pete Schellbach (New York, N.Y./Salisbury School),
Harrison Seabold (Silver Spring, Md./Barrie),
CT Graniel (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) and defenseman
Cassady Bouthet (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) also scored while
Nicholas Cimillo (Palm Harbor, Fla/East Lake),
Aidan D'Amato (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) and defenseman
Dillon D'Amato (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) had assists.
Franciscan gained some ground in the second, outscoring the Gators 4-3. Seabold, A. D'Amato and
Gideon Sullivan (Getzville, N.Y./Cathedral (Ind.)) scored in the frame with A. D'Amato also tallying an assist on Sullivan's strike.
Bouthet opened the third with his second goal of the game. Seabold then strung three straight goals together to increase the lead to 15-5. Franciscan ended the run midway through the frame, which proved to be the final goal of the third.
After a pair of Franciscan goals in the fourth, Gralewski completed his hat trick. The Barons tallied another one before Schellbach scored on an assist by A. D'Amato for the final goal of the contest.
Inside the Box
- Seabold led the Gators with a career-high five goals. He also had four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
- A. D'Amato finished with four points on one goal and three assists.
- Gralewski had a hat trick.
- Schellbach, Bouthet and Cushwa had two goal games. Bouthet added four ground balls while Schellbach had three.
- Sullivan and Graniel had goals while Cimillo and D. D'Amato had assists.
- Ryan Therkorn (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) went 13-of-20 on faceoffs with nine ground balls. Anthony DeMarco (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) went eight-of-nine on faceoffs with five ground balls.
- The combined 21 facebook wins was the second most on the season.
- Ryan Mantione (East Northport, N.Y./John Glenn) caused two turnovers with three ground balls.
News and Notes
- The Gators finish the season with an 8-7 overall record and a 4-3 mark in PAC play.
- They earned a spot in the PAC Championship Tournament as the fourth seed and will be making their first postseason appearance in program history.
- In their fourth year as a program, the Gators finished the regular season above .500 for the first time.
- Today's game was the first between the two programs.
