Top-Seeded Men's Tennis Punches Ticket to PAC Championship Finals

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The top-seeded Allegheny College men's tennis won its semifinal against No. 4 Franciscan University by a 5-0 final score on Thursday afternoon at the Robertson Tennis Complex, as the Gators punched their ticket to the 2023 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament finals.

Before the match, the final home contest of the year, the Gators recognized their lone senior, Adam Shinomiya (Portland, Ore./International School of Beaverton), as part of their Senior Day festivities.

Once action began. Shinomiya helped lead Allegheny to victory. He and Evan Nelson (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) were the first doubles tandem to finish their match, winning with an unblemished 8-0 score. The Gators swept the doubles portion of the semifinal to take an early lead.

With the match played to completion, Allegheny only needed two singles wins to advance to the finals. Shinomiya was the first to secure a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the second spot in the lineup. David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad and Tobago/Fatima College) earned the deciding point with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and Travis Mistry entertained the crowd in their No. 1 singles match. Although it officially goes into the books as an unfinished match, Hedlund battled to win a tiebreaker over Mistry for a 7-6 (5) first-set triumph.
