Women’s Lacrosse Suffers Setback at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team dropped their first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest of the year, falling 18-8 at Washington & Jefferson Wednesday (April 26).
 
The Presidents got out to a fast start, opening up on a 7-0 run. The Gators would score the final two goals of the frame, with Ashley Amato (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) scoring the first on an assist by Grace Baginski (Lakeville, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) and Emily Herrold (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) scoring the second. Washington & Jefferson increased their lead to 12-3 at halftime with a 5-1 advantage in the second. Senna Perelman (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) notched the lone Gator goal in the quarter.
 
The Gators started the third quarter on a 3-0 run with a pair of goals by Perelman and an additional one by Baginski, cutting the lead to 12-6. However, the Presidents went on a 5-0 run to regain control. Ema Caragein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton La Salle) and Herrold found the back of the net in the fourth, but it was not enough to overcome the Washington & Jefferson lead.

  • Perelman led the Gators with three goals.
  • Herrold found the back of the net twice and led the team with four groundballs while causing two turnovers.
  • Baginski also had two points on a goal and an assist.
  • Caragein and Amato also scored.
  • Amelia Henderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) had three groundballs and led the team with three caused turnovers.
  • Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) had three draw controls. 
  • The Gators had a 33-29 advantage on shots, 21-15 advantage on groundballs and turned the ball over just 10 times compared the 20 by the Presidents.
