GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team knocked off Grove City College, 8-1, on Friday afternoon and finished the regular season with an undefeated Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) record.
With an 8-0 record against conference opponents, Allegheny (14-4) secured the PAC regular-season title and the No. 1 seed for the upcoming PAC Championships. As the top seed, the Gators will receive a bye into the semifinal round on Thursday, April 27.
Friday's match against Grove City (11-5, 6-1 PAC) marked the first in which the Gators didn't defeat a conference rival in shutout fashion. The Wolverines, who suffered their first PAC loss of the season and will battle for the second seed, not only took one point with a No. 2 doubles win, but forced three singles matches into tiebreakers.
Ethan Carr (King of Prussia, Pa./Harriton) and
Evan Nelson (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) both needed a 10-point tiebreaker to win their matches at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively. In the fifth spot,
Will Jarvie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) finished his sweep of Collier Kaufman with a seven-point tiebreaker.
