MEADVILLE, Pa. -- An explosive second half led Saint Vincent College to a 15-3 victory over Allegheny College men's lacrosse in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup at Frank B. Fuhrer Field on Saturday night.
The Bearcats (10-2, 2-1 PAC) scored more than half of their goals in the third quarter, which turned what was a tight contest into a lopsided victory over the Gators (6-6, 2-2 PAC).
It was a low-scoring first half for both teams. Although the Gators were held without a goal in the opening quarter, they outscored Saint Vincent in the second quarter, 2-1. The highlight of the night for Allegheny came in the closing seconds of the first half when head coach
Tommy Pearce used a timeout to draw up a nifty scoring play. The Gators swung the ball below the goal line extended to
Gideon Sullivan (Getzville, N.Y./Cathedral (Ind.)), who found
Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) wide open in front of the net for a quick-stick score with only 1.8 seconds left on the clock.
Saint Vincent only led by one at the break, 3-2, but the Bearcats ran away with eight unanswered goals to start the third quarter.
