PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's lacrosse team used a stellar second-half performance to earn a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Chatham University, 8-4. on Wednesday night.
In the low-scoring affair, the two teams were tied at 3-all at the halftime intermission. Allegheny (7-6, 3-2 PAC) returned from the locker room and put five unanswered goals on the scoreboard in the second half to secure the win.
Momentum began to swing in Allegheny's favor midway through the third quarter. The turning point of the night occurred when
Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) scored the go-ahead goal with a flag down. After the goal, a one-minute slashing penalty was assessed against the Cougars (5-8, 2-2 PAC). With only two seconds remaining on the infraction,
Gideon Sullivan (Getzville, N.Y./Cathedral (Ind.)) found the back of the net to give the Gators a 5-3 advantage.
Chatham had two man-up opportunities of its own before the end of the third quarter, but
David Kratzenberg (Latrobe, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) and the Allegheny defense held the Cougars without a goal until late in the fourth.
