Gators Beat Up Bethany at Home, 19-6

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's lacrosse team fired on all cylinders on Wednesday night, as the Gators took down Bethany College by a score of 19-6 under the lights on Frank B. Fuhrer Field.

The Gators (6-5, 2-1 PAC), who scored six of the game's first seven goals, turned a respectable 8-4 halftime lead into a rout in the third quarter. Allegheny outscored Bethany (5-6, 0-4 PAC) in the third, 8-1, matching its offensive output from the first two quarters combined.

The all-around impressive performance started at the faceoff dot, where Ryan Therkorn (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) led the Gators to a new program record. Allegheny won a single-game record 22 faceoffs, and Therkorn finished 15-of-18 with a game-high 11 ground balls.

Five of the 10 Gators who earned a point scored multiple goals. Aidan D'Amato (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) paced all players with five goals and six points. Allegheny also received a trio of hat tricks from Gideon Sullivan (Getzville, N.Y./Cathedral (Ind.)), Nick Gralewski (Meadville, Pa./Meadville), and Benjamin Gallegos (Lafayette, Colo./Dawson School). Nicholas Cimillo (Palm Harbor, Fla./East Lake) rounded out the multi-point producers with a pair of markers.

  • Allegheny held significant leads in shots (56-to-14), ground balls (50-to-21), and faceoff wins (22-to-6).
  • Neither team was able to score on an extra-man opportunity, but the Gators managed to score once during a man-down situation.
  • Therkorn led all players in faceoff wins (15) and ground balls (11).
  • D'Amato finished with a game-high six points (5g-1a).
  • Sullivan (3g-2a) picked up five points, while Gralewski and Gallegos each had four points (3g-1a).
  • Pete Schellbach (New York, N.Y./Salisbury School), Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg), and Griffin Cates (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) each deposited one goal.
  • Jack Hales (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) and Harrison Seabold (Silver Spring, Md./Barrie) both handed out one assist.
  • David Kratzenberg (Latrobe, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic), who played 50:05 in goal for Allegheny, made two saves en route to the win.
  • Clay Yingling led the Bison with four goals.

  • Allegheny climbed above .500 at 6-5 overall with a 2-1 PAC record.
  • Wednesday's win was the first-ever meeting between Allegheny and Bethany.
  • Nineteen goals are the second-most the Gators have scored in a game this spring.
  • The Gators set a new program record for faceoff wins with 22, while Therkorn tied the individual program record with 15 wins.
  • D'Amato is only the third player in program history to record at least five goals in a game.
  • D'Amato also broke Allegheny's single-season goal record and now has 24 as a junior.
