Petrarca nets seven in win at Whitman

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team completed their trip to the Northwest with a 16-10 win over Whitman Wednesday (March 8) afternoon.

Senna Perelman (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) scored just over a minute into the game to put the Gators in front. After two Whitman goals, Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) tied the game off a dish from Perelman. The Blues would once again score the next two goals to take a 4-2 lead, but the Gators responded with the final two goals of the quarter. After Petrarca netted her second goal of the game, Grace Baginski (Lakeville, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) scored from a Petrarca assist, tying the game.

The momentum carried over to the second quarter for the Gators as they scored the only three goals of the frame. Petrarca scored the bookend goals with Perelman finding the back of the net in between to give Allegheny a 7-4 halftime lead.

After the break, the Gator run would reach seven goals. Ashley Amato (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) scored the first goal of the third followed by Baginski's second of the game, assisted by Perelman. Whitman would go on a 4-1 run to cut the lead to 10-8. Perelman scored the lone goal in that run. Allegheny answered with their own 4-1 run to end the quarter. Petrarca scored three of those goals, with one assisted by Amelia Henderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny). Kendall Cox (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) tallied the final goal which gave the Gators a 14-9 lead heading into the fourth.

Midway through the fourth, Amato scored her second free-position goal of the day. Baginski notched her third goal of the game minutes later to make it 16-9. Whitman would score the final goal of the game but the Gators collected the win.
