Gators move to 5-0 with win against Baldwin Wallace

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team moved to 5-0 as they defeated Baldwin Wallace 16-6 Wednesday (March 15) in their home opener.

The Gators got to work quickly. About two minutes in, reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Offensive Player of the Week Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) scored unassisted. Minutes later, Liz Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) scored off a feed from Grace Baginski (Lakeville, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) to make it 2-0. Allegheny needed just 20 seconds to score again as Baginski found the back off the net on an assist by Senna Perelman (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights). The lead would grow to 5-0, with Petrarca and Perelman netting goals, before the Yellow Jackets got on the board. Baldwin Wallace scored once more late in the quarter but the Gators owned a 5-2 advantage after 15 minutes of play.

Similar to the first quarter, Allegheny started the second quarter on a 5-0 run. Perelman scored two of those goals while Ashley Amato (Westerly, R.I./Westerly), Emily Herrold (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) and Baginski scored the other three. The Yellow Jackets would score a pair of goals late in the frame, but the Gators maintained a 10-4 lead at the break.

The third quarter went back-and-forth. After the Yellow Jackets struck first, Herrold and Baginski scored back-to-back goals for the Gators, increasing their lead to 12-5. Baldwin Wallace would cut the lead in half, but a late goal by Kennedy Kyle (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley), assisted by Perelman, pushed the lead back to 13-6 heading into the fourth.

Petrarca scored her third and fourth goals of the game to open up the fourth quarter. Baginski closed out the scoring with her fourth goal late as the Gators sealed the win.
