HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- It was an unceremonious start to the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) Spring Break Fest for the Allegheny College women's tennis team, which suffered its first loss of the 2022-23 season at the hands of Gettysburg College on Monday.
Although the 8-1 final score would indicate that the Bullets (2-0) ran away with Monday's match, it was anything but an easy victory against the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champion Gators (14-1).
Gettysburg swept all six singles points, but needed a 10-point tiebreak to secure the wins in the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions in the lineup.
Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) and
Allison Riley (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) both rebounded from first-set losses to beat their opponents 6-1 in the second set.
Noelle Kidd (Broadview Heights, Ohio/North Royalton) also won her second set against Alex Rieg, 6-4, but the Bullets were able to win all three tiebreakers.
The only point Allegheny won came at No. 1 doubles, as
Ella Swan (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg Academic) and
Jean-Arlette Legrand (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville School) took down the tandem of Andrea Brazyte and Gillian Rozenfeld, 8-3.
