TUCSON, Ariz. -- In the first game of the team's spring break trip in Arizona, the Allegheny College baseball team fell to Otterbein University, 14-7.
Although the Cardinals (4-1) scored early and often with runs in each of the first six frames, it seemed that things might favor the Gators (1-3) in the top of the first.
Brady Nolin (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) and
Chase Chodkowski (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) wasted no time before getting Allegheny on the scoreboard with consecutive base hits to lead off the contest. Chodkowski plated the first run of the night with an RBI double, the first of two extra-base hits for the senior shortstop.
Similar to Chodkowski's approach at the plate, there was no shortage of offense for the Otterbein batters, who totaled 17 hits, including a pair of home runs. The Gators used six arms to finish the nine-inning bout, with only
Reid Passauer (Covington, La./Archbishop Hannan) and
William DeCicco III (Fairview Park, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) escaping their appearances out of the bullpen unscathed.
