Gators fall in PAC doubleheader to Titans

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny baseball team dropped a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games on late comebacks by Westminster Tuesday (March 28).

The Titans won game one 5-2 and game two 4-3.

Game One - Westminster 5, Allegheny 2

After a pair of scoreless innings, the Gators got on the scoreboard in the third inning. With Hunter Lohr (Bowdoinham, Maine/Mount Ararat) on first after a fielder's choice, lead-off hitter Brady Nolin (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) homered to left field, giving the Gators a 2-0 lead. The home run was his first of the season.

In the sixth, the Titans nearly got on the board but Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)) threw out a runner rounding third at home from left field.

Starting pitcher Conor Deasy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) kept the Titans at-bay in his seven innings of work. He allowed just three hits and no runs while striking out eight batters.

The score remained 2-0 until the ninth. The Titans crossed the plate five times in the frame as they tallied five hits in the inning while taking advantage of a Gator miscue.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Gators were unable to put a runner on-base as they dropped game one 5-2.

Inside the Box
  • Deasy went 7.0 innings, striking out eight while allowing just three hits and no runs.
  • Nolin's two-run home run led the Gators at the plate. He also added a single.
  • Sullivan Schueltz (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) also had a multi-hit game with a pair of singles.
  • Matt Jennings (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) doubled while Alejandro Samayoa (Katonah, N.Y./John Jay Cross River) rounded out the hits with a single.

Game Two – Westminster 4,  Allegheny 3

The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning. Tommaso Floro (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) led off the inning with his second hit of the day. Ryan Dougherty (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) followed up with a double to move Floro to third. A Jake Stotsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) brought Floro home on a groundout, breaking the stalemate.

The Titans would take the lead in the seventh. After scoring the first run with two outs, an Allegheny error allowed a second run across the plate.

The Gators made up that run and regained the lead in the eighth inning. Bryant-Dawson was walked to start the inning. After moving up on a sac bunt, a Dougherty double down the third base line scored Bryant-Dawson and tied the game at two. After a pitching change, William Wolff (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) hit a pinch-hit RBI single, plating Dougherty to push the Gators back in front 3-2.

Similar to game one, the Titans mounted a comeback in the ninth. With a runner on and two outs, the Titans hit a two-run home run, giving them a 4-3 lead.

Bryant-Dawson reached first on an error with two outs in the ninth but it was not enough as the Gators fell 4-3.

Inside the Box
  • Dougherty produced a pair of doubles at the plate, driving in two runs.
  • Floro also had a multi-hit game with a pair of singles.
