NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. --Â Ahead of the 2022-23 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, February 23, the conference released the results of the men's and women's pre-championship coaches' polls.
On the women's side, the Gators received the most first-place votes in the PAC, but fell just one point shy of first-place Grove City College. The Wolverines earned 91 points and four first-place votes, while Allegheny came in second with 90 points and the remaining seven first-place votes. Geneva College (79), Washington and Jefferson College (73), and Westminster College (68) rounded out the top five.
Four teams split first-place votes on the men's side, and the Presidents from W&J are first with 91 total points. Allegheny was predicted to place seventh with 54 points, but the Gators are only four points shy of fifth-place Saint Vincent College (58).
The 2022-23 PAC Indoor Championships will be hosted at Youngstown State University's Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS), with the field events beginning at 11:30 a.m. and the track events starting at 3:00 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students with ID and children ages five through 12 (current college, high school, or grade school IDs must be valid and shown upon request). Children under five are free. There will also be a $5 parking fee for spectators.
At the conclusion of Thursday's championships, the PAC will recognize its team champions as well the Most Outstanding Performers (overall, track, and field), Newcomers of the Year, Coaches of the Year, and Sportsmanship Team honorees.
The women's track and field team will be represented by nearly 30 student-athletes, headlined by sprinting extraordinaireÂ
Mihaela Toader (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon). Toader owns the PAC's best times in the 200- and 400-meter dash, and ranks third in the 60-meter dash. Fans should also keep a close eye on throwersÂ
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy),Â
Laila Davis (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton), andÂ
Lydia Giannini (Warren, Pa./Eisenhower), who all rank among the top four in the conference in the shot put and weight throw.
From the men's team,Â
Stephen Cullinan (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) is expected to participate in three field events, the high jump, pole vault, and long jump. A true standout in the multis, the senior is also among Allegheny's best in the sprints and hurdles and is an option in the 4x400 relay. The reigning PAC Field Athlete of the Week,Â
Jacob King (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe), enters the championship meet with the best weight throw in the conference.Â
