PITTSBURGH -- For the first time in three years, the Allegheny College women's basketball team has punched its postseason ticket.
The fifth-seeded Gators will begin their playoff run tonight at 7:00 p.m. against fourth-seeded Chatham University in the 2022-23 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament.
For those unable to attend the game, streaming video from the PAC Sports Network, an audio broadcast with Allegheny's own Kyle Chandler, and live stats will be available.
Under the direction of second-year head coach Kelly Muffley, the Gators improved by seven games in the win column this winter. Allegheny enters the quarterfinals with a 13-12 overall record (12-8 PAC), the most wins in a season since 2015-16. Looking at the series, the Gators and Cougars split their two-game set, with each team earning a win on their home court. On January 3, the Blue and Gold beat Chatham, 79-71, thanks to a 25-point effort from Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone).
Chatham (17-7, 14-6 PAC) won 17 games and secured the fourth seed in the PAC Tournament for the second consecutive year. However, in the quarterfinals last February, the Cougars were upset on their home court by No. 5 Bethany College, 64-44. Like Allegheny, Chatham boasts a young roster, but the Cougars are comprised entirely of first-years and sophomores.
The winner of today's matchup advances to the PAC semifinals on Wednesday, February 22, and will face either No. 1 Washington and Jefferson College and No. 8 Geneva College. This year's championship game will be held at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, February 25.
