Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With Win vs. Waynesburg

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's soccer team struck lightning in the second half of their Saturday matinee, as the Gators took down a conference foe in the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets, 3-2.

The Gators showed out on Senior Day. Before the game, the five seniors - Kari May (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Liv Ernest (Mt. Lebanon, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), Julieta Schworm (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley), Katie Reed (Annapolis, Md./Arundel), and Beatrice Foley (Toronto, Ont./Humberside Collegiate) - were celebrated for their hard work and dedication to the program. While they provided in their own right, the rest of the team had their backs in the winning effort.

It was a slow start for Allegheny. The first half consisted of many chances that fell by the wayside. The Gators fell into a 1-0 hole after Julz Morhbacher pinned a free kick from well outside the box into the top right corner in the 36th minute.

The second half, however, told a different story. Allegheny came out firing on all cylinders. It was Schworm who got her team on the board with the Gators' first goal less than four minutes out of the halftime intermission.

Later in the half, Kylie Upton (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) needled a corner kick to the back of the net to give Allegheny their first lead of the afternoon. Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) capped off the scoring for the Gators to put them up two goals in the 88th minute.

While all hope seemed lost for Waynesburg, the Yellow Jackets rallied for a goal with under 60 ticks left in regulation. But, it was too little, too late, as they could not find the equalizer.
