MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The visitors from Waynesburg University played the role of spoiler on Senior Day, as the Yellow Jackets recorded a 5-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over the Allegheny College men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon.
The Gators (3-8-0, 2-3-0 PAC) were held scoreless, but it wasn't for a lack of effort by the Allegheny offense. The Blue and Gold had a 23-to-16 advantage in shots and a slight 3-to-2 lead in corners. Thirteen different Gators logged at least one shot, led by
Gunnar Brettell (Steubenville, Ohio/Indian Creek) and
Will Gruca (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) with four apiece.
The Yellow Jackets (7-4-0, 4-2-0 PAC), who boast the second-highest scoring offense in the PAC, displayed their scoring prowess early. Waynesburg netted three goals in less than two minutes between the 10th and 12th minutes. Zachary Johnson was responsible for two of those three early tallies as part of a hat-trick effort for the first-year striker.
At halftime, the Gators honored its nine seniors: Brettell,
