MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team avenged a loss to Grove City earlier in the season with a sweep of the Wolverines in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Friday evening (Oct. 6).
Allegheny won the sets 25-16, 29-27, 25-12.
The Gators jumped out to a 7-2 lead with three aces early on. That lead grew to 16-9 later on before Grove City called their second timeout. After the timeout, the Gators led by as much as 10 as they captured the set 26-16.
After winning the first four points of the second set, the Gators' lead grew to 10-3 before a Grove City timeout. The Wolverines battled back, tying the set at 16 apiece before taking an 18-16 lead. The Gators answered with their own 4-0 run to regain the advantage. The run grew to 7-0 following a timeout, but Grove City tied it back up at 24. Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) gave the Gators a 29-27 win.
The momentum carried over to the third set for Allegheny as they took an early 9-4 lead. The Gators would maintain the advantage the rest of the way as the lead grew to as much as 13 as they sealed the conference win with a 25-12 third set victory.
Inside the Box
- Diaz finished the match with nine aces, breaking her own mark from earlier in the season for the most aces for a Gator in a three-set match. She also led the team with 23 digs.
- Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) led the Gator offense with 14 kills.
- Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) finished with 10 kills and 13 digs.
- Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) and Sydney Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) had nine and seven kills, respectively.
- Alejandra Fernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville) tallied 11 digs.
- Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren), Javes and Kirk had three blocks each.

- The Gators are now 14-6 overall on the season and 2-0 in PAC action.
- All-time, Allegheny is 27-16 all-time against Grove City.
