Gators Drop Overtime Game to Presidents

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny field hockey team concluded the home portion of their schedule Wednesday (Oct. 25) in nonconference action against Washington and Jefferson, falling in overtime 3-2.

The Gators held possession most of the first quarter, resulting in a late goal. After a foul, Emily Robles (Burlington Township, Pa./Burlington Township) sent a pass to the front of the goal. Maya Francisco (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley Country Day School) picked up the pass and found the back of the net for the game's first goal.

The Presidents' earned some chances late in the opening half, including a pair of penalty corners in the final few minutes. However, Meredythe Baird (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) stepped in front of one shot while Molly Miller (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) made a defensive save on another to preserve the lead.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Gators got on the board early in the fourth. Off a penalty corner, Ella O'Connor (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) collected a rebound and found Maddy Keenan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Trafford) set-up at the corner of the net. Keenan  quickly took the pass and put it in the back of the net to increase the lead to 2-0.

The Presidents got on the scoreboard with just under five minutes to play off a penalty corner. Two minutes later, Washington and Jefferson struck again, tying the game at two and sending the game into overtime.
