Gators Set Milestones in Tri-Match Sweep

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team swept a home tri-match against Westminster and Wooster Saturday (Oct. 14).

The Gators opened the day with a five-set thriller victory in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play against Westminster before sweeping Wooster.

During the Wooster match, a pair of Gators reached career milestones. Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) tallied her 1,000th career dig while Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) tallied her 1,000th career assist.

The opening sets were both tightly contested. After the Gators won the opening set 28-26, the Titans evened the match with another close win in the second set, 26-24.

The third set saw the largest victory of the match as the Gators rebounded to take it 25-16. Once again though, the Titans answered the call and tied the match with a 25-22 set four win.

The Gators got out to a quick start in the fifth and deciding set, 5-1. The Titans would answer, and eventually gained a 10-9 lead before moving to 12-10. Following a timeout, the Gators responded with a 3-0 run. The back-and-forth continued as the teams found themselves tied at 14.

Westminster earned the first match point, but an Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) killed stopped the opportunity. That kill sparked the Gators as a kill by Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) gave Allegheny a match point. The Titans would commit an attack error on the ensuing point, giving the Gators the PAC win.
