MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team swept a home tri-match against Westminster and Wooster Saturday (Oct. 14).
The Gators opened the day with a five-set thriller victory in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play against Westminster before sweeping Wooster.
During the Wooster match, a pair of Gators reached career milestones.
Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) tallied her 1,000th career dig while
Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) tallied her 1,000th career assist.
Allegheny 3, Westminster 2 (28-26, 24-26, 25-16, 22-25, 17-15)
The opening sets were both tightly contested. After the Gators won the opening set 28-26, the Titans evened the match with another close win in the second set, 26-24.
The third set saw the largest victory of the match as the Gators rebounded to take it 25-16. Once again though, the Titans answered the call and tied the match with a 25-22 set four win.
The Gators got out to a quick start in the fifth and deciding set, 5-1. The Titans would answer, and eventually gained a 10-9 lead before moving to 12-10. Following a timeout, the Gators responded with a 3-0 run. The back-and-forth continued as the teams found themselves tied at 14.
Westminster earned the first match point, but an
Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) killed stopped the opportunity. That kill sparked the Gators as a kill by
Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) gave Allegheny a match point. The Titans would commit an attack error on the ensuing point, giving the Gators the PAC win.
Inside the Box
- Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) led the Gators with a season-high 17 kills.
- Bawek had 15 kills to go alongside 16 digs.
- Javes added 13 digs while Sydney Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) had a dozen.
- Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) had 28 assists while Robare had 24.
- Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) led the backline with 27 digs.
- Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy (Utah)) tallied 14 digs while Alejandra Fernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville) had 12.
- As the team, the Gators had 16 aces and seven total blocks.
Allegheny 3, Wooster (25-13, 25-19, 25-19)
The Gators controlled the flow of the opening set, using multiple big runs to take it 25-13. The second set was closer, but a late 6-1 run by the Gators lifted them to a 25-19 set win.
Midway through the final set, the Gators once again put together a bug run. This time, the run went to 9-1, putting the set out of hand for the Fighting Scots as the Gators finished the tri-match sweep.

- Bawek finished the match with 15 digs and 13 kills.
- Chambers added a dozen more kills for the game.
- Javes and Kirk had seven kills apiece.
- Gray led the team with 21 assists while Robare had 15.
