MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny field hockey team defeated Oberlin 2-0 in a nonconference game Sunday (Oct. 1) in Meadville.
The Gators got on the board late in the first quarter on a penalty stroke.
Emily Jackson (Oreland, Pa./Springfield Township) took advantage of the opportunity and put the Gators in front 1-0.
In a scoreless second quarter,
Meredythe Baird (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) made a stop off a penalty corner to preserve the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Gators outshot their counterparts 4-0 in the third, but were unable to produce another goal as the score remained 1-0 going into the final frame.
The lead grew to 2-0 early in the fourth quarter. Off a penalty quarter,
Jamie Marchewka (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) scored from an assist by
Maya Francisco (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley Country Day School).
The defense did not allow another shot in the game as they picked up the shutout victory.
