Women's Soccer Draws Unbeaten Mount Union on Late Goal

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Allegheny College women's soccer team scored a late goal en route to a 1-1 draw against the University of Mount Union at Kehres Stadium on Wednesday night.

Trailing 1-0 in the 83rd minute, Allegheny (0-2-1) evened the score on a great tally off the foot of Julieta Schworm (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley). The possession was set up with a long over-the-top pass from the backline. The Purple Raiders played the ball back to their goalkeeper, Michele Hofacker, who was forced to kick the ball out of bounds to prevent a dangerous situation inside the box.

Initially, no one was able to get a touch on Emma Miller's (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) throw-in, which bounced through heavy traffic and towards the goal line. Before the second bounce, Schworm poked the ball inside the right post despite the tight coverage by the Mount Union defense.

The host Purple Raiders (1-0-2) had a few opportunities for a game-winner in the final two minutes, but neither shot ended up on target.

Inside the Box
  • Mount Union finished the game with more shots (17-to-9) and more corners (7-to-1).
  • Both teams were even with six shots on goal.
  • Andrea Decker scored Mount Union's lone goal of the contest in the 65th minute.
  • Schworm netted the equalizer on her third shot of the game.
  • Kari May (Erie, Pa./McDowell) produced five saves in 90 minutes for the Gators.
